OneKC for Women Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers can connect directly with women through the OneKC for Women affiliates, Women’s Employment Network (WEN), Women’s Business Center (WBC), and Women’s Capital Connection (WCC) to make an immediate impact on the lives of women in the Kansas City community. Volunteering is flexible to fit various schedules and interests. Opportunities includeJoin us in making a difference in the lives of women and their families.

Direct Support

  • Guest Presenter / Workshop Facilitator – Share an area of expertise relevant to women entrepreneurs or women in the workplace\
  • Mentor – Coach/mentor a woman entrepreneur or WEN client
  • Mock Interviewer – Conduct mock interviews with women participating in the WEN core training program
  • Résumé Writing – Work with WEN women one-on-one or remotely to help create or strengthen their résumés
  • Job Search Assistance – Assist clients with job search techniques in WEN’s computer lab or research job leads in targeted areas to update resource materials utilized by WEN graduates and trainees in their job search
  • Panelist – Act as a panelist for WCC educational events
  • Phone Support – Make phone calls on behalf of OneKC for Women
  • Professional Clothing Bank – Donate high quality, seasonally appropriate, professional clothing and accessories to WEN program participants for job interviewing
  • Clothing Bank Assistant – Assist with maintaining WEN’s on-site professional clothing bank

Indirect Support

  • Board Membership – Join WEN’s board of directors
  • Committee Membership – Work alongside WEN board members on such committees as: Fund Development, Finance, and Marketing
  • Reach for the Stars Ambassador – Become involved in a grass roots fundraising campaign by developing a “Giving Circle” to support WEN
  • Administrative Support – Provide support to staff members by performing various administrative duties such as data entry, acting as part time receptionist, preparing mass mailings, etc.
  • Episodic Volunteer – Respond to various requests for one-time volunteer needs such as providing assistance at fundraising or community awareness events or representing OneKC for Women at trade shows
  • Speaker’s Bureau – Speak to various community groups about OneKC for Women or oversee an informational booth at community events
  • Grant Writing Assistant – Assist with researching new grant opportunities and compiling information related to successful grant submission

WEN Corporate Support

  • WEN Works – Businesses host WEN women in training for office tours. Visits may include special presentations, receptions, mock interviews, and other opportunities for women to learn about succeeding in the workplace
  • Core Training Support – Send a group of employees to cover a resume writing or mock interviewing session at WEN
  • Training Session Sponsors – Businesses and organizations can “adopt” a group of women in a WEN training session. Training sponsors contribute orientation and graduation gifts for each woman such as pad folios, planners, motivational items, flowers, etc. as well as providing volunteer support throughout the training session.
